Fall is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about the age-old question “what to wear?” It seems that everything old IS new again, especially those dreadful 80’s. Everyone from GUCCI to H & M is offering re-designed, re-vamped and recycled looks… “think big hair bands vs. WHAM!”

You will even notice some VINTAGE brands making an appearance this fall. Remember JORDACHE? Reality TV’s own frauline Heidi Klum has even signed on to be the face and FANNY for the new JORDACHE campaign. Look in a Macy’s or Nordstrom near you for your very own pair. Other retro brands like Sergio Valenti and Le Tigre just won’t let go either. If you’re really interested look for them at your local Nordstrom or Macy’s.
Men’s accessories (belts, cuffs and jewelry) all have become more important to every brand out there fighting for retail dollars in this tight economy. This is good for all of us, as you know how we boiz like to accessorize. Your shoes no longer have to match your belt! Get rid of that ancient rule (unless you are in a suit) and have some fun. Ed Hardy has some FANTASTIC Tattoo inspired belts that make a statement and look awesome with any pair of jeans in your closet and for around $100-150. Chanel has even joined the mix with some amazing “Logo” belts that manage to be understated and flashy at the same time, for about $1000. You can proudly fill your belt loops and keep those baggy jeans from falling down.

Changing belts is one of the easiest ways to update a somewhat dated or tired look. A great way to get more bang out of you “belt BUCK” is to purchase your belts about three inches longer than your usual size, then take your new purchase to a local shoe or leather repair center and have the buckle removed, add snaps to the inside so you can easily swap out your belt buckles and change buckles as often as you choose. Always remember that lighter belts do draw attention to your waist, so if you don’t hit the gym eight times a week and don’t want focus drawn to your midsection, then steer clear.
In addition to the 80’s styles and brands you’ll see this fall, you’ll also notice those jewel tones we like to forget, making an appearance. Teal, burgundy, slate and royal blue were all seen on every catwalk in Milan, Paris and New York. Plaids, checks and even argyle are back with a vengeance; just remember not to wear them all together at the same time, not then, not now, NOT EVER!

As I always say, “make sure to take a good look in a full-length mirror, ask honest friends for honest advice and feel GOOD in what you decide to wear. If you don’t like it, or aren’t comfortable, it won’t work.”
